All-Weather Driving
Learn to drive safely in rain, fog, ice, and other adverse weather conditions that you may not have encountered during your lessons.
Out of Town Driving

Pass Plus in Stromness — FAQs
What is Pass Plus and can I do it in Stromness?
Pass Plus is a practical training course designed for newly qualified drivers in Stromness who want to improve their skills beyond the standard driving test. It covers six modules: town driving, all-weather driving, driving out of town, dual carriageways, night driving, and motorway driving. There is no test at the end — your DVSA-registered instructor assesses your progress throughout. Reliant Driver Training has Pass Plus registered instructors available in Stromness. Enquire to check current availability.
Will Pass Plus reduce my car insurance in Stromness?
Many car insurance providers offer a discount to drivers who hold a Pass Plus certificate, though the amount varies by insurer and is not guaranteed. The discount can be significant for young or newly qualified drivers in Stromness, who typically face the highest insurance premiums. We recommend getting quotes from multiple insurers both with and without the Pass Plus certificate to see the actual saving. Even if the insurance saving does not cover the full cost of the course, the improved skills and confidence are valuable in their own right.
How long does Pass Plus take in Stromness?
The Pass Plus course in Stromness consists of at least 6 hours of driving across the six modules. In practice, most courses take slightly longer as your instructor will spend as much time as needed on each module until you reach the required standard. The course can be completed over one or two days, or spread across several sessions. Your instructor will advise on the best schedule based on your availability and the modules you find most challenging.
How much does Pass Plus cost in Stromness?
Pass Plus course costs in Stromness vary by instructor. Rather than publishing a fixed rate that may go out of date, we ask you to enquire directly for a current quote. The cost typically reflects the number of hours involved and the instructor's standard lesson rate. When comparing the cost against potential insurance savings, many newly qualified drivers in Stromness find Pass Plus represents good value — particularly in the first year of driving when premiums are highest.
When should I do Pass Plus in Stromness?
Pass Plus is designed for newly qualified drivers and is most valuable in the weeks and months immediately after passing your test in Stromness. This is when your skills are fresh but your confidence and experience on more challenging roads — motorways, night driving, adverse weather — may still be limited. Completing Pass Plus early also means you can benefit from any insurance discount from the start of your first full insurance policy. However, there is no time limit — you can complete Pass Plus at any point after passing your test.
Do I need Pass Plus if I already drive on motorways in Stromness?
Pass Plus covers six modules, of which motorway driving is just one. Even if you are already comfortable on motorways, the other five modules — town driving, all-weather driving, rural roads, dual carriageways, and night driving — may still be valuable. Many newly qualified drivers in Stromness have limited experience of night driving or adverse weather conditions, which are covered in depth by Pass Plus. Your instructor will assess your current ability at the start of the course and focus on the areas where you have the most to gain.
