in Stromness
Choosing the right driving school in Stromness makes a real difference to how quickly you pass and how much you enjoy learning. Here is what to look for — and why Reliant Driver Training stands out.
Stromness is Orkney's second town and ferry port to Scrabster, with the A965, the B9055, and the town's narrow flagstone streets. Our instructors cover the local roads and the Kirkwall test routes.
How to Choose a Driving School in Stromness
Not all driving schools are equal. Here are the six things every learner in Stromness should check before committing to a school.
DVSA Accreditation
Every instructor at a reputable driving school must hold a current DVSA ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) registration. Always verify this before booking.
Pass Rate Transparency
Ask any driving school in Stromness for their first-time pass rate. Reputable schools are proud to share this. National average is around 47% — look for schools above this.
Instructor Matching
The best schools match you to an instructor based on your location, availability, and learning style — not just whoever is free next.
Clear Pricing
Avoid schools with hidden fees, mandatory block bookings, or unclear cancellation policies. Reliant offers transparent pricing with no lock-in.
Lesson Quality
Look for schools that use structured lesson plans, provide progress feedback, and adapt their teaching to your individual needs.
Local Knowledge
An instructor who knows the roads and test routes in Stromness gives you a significant advantage on test day.
