You can call us free on 0800 994 9090 or submit an enquiry online and we'll get back to you promptly with pricing for Lerwick. How many lessons will I need in Lerwick?
The DVSA recommends an average of 45 hours of professional tuition before taking the practical test, though many learners in Lerwick need more or fewer depending on their natural ability, how regularly they practise, and whether they supplement lessons with private practice. Learners who take lessons consistently — ideally two or more per week — tend to progress faster and need fewer lessons overall. Your Reliant instructor in Lerwick will assess your progress at each lesson and give you an honest estimate of how many more you're likely to need before you're test-ready. There is no pressure to book more lessons than necessary.
Which driving test centre will I use in Lerwick?
Learners in Lerwick typically take their practical driving test at Lerwick DVSA test centre. Your Reliant instructor will prepare you specifically for the routes used at your local test centre — including the junctions, roundabouts, and road types that examiners commonly use. Knowing the test routes in advance gives you a significant advantage on test day. Your instructor will also advise on the best time to book your test based on your progress.
Do you offer automatic driving lessons in Lerwick?
Yes. We have both manual and automatic driving instructors available in Lerwick. Automatic lessons are an excellent option if you find the clutch and gear changes difficult to master, if you have a physical condition that makes manual driving harder, or if you simply want to focus entirely on road awareness and hazard perception without the added complexity of gear management. Bear in mind that an automatic licence only allows you to drive automatic vehicles — if you want to drive both, a manual licence covers you for both. Your instructor can help you decide which is right for you.
Can I do an intensive driving course in Lerwick?
Yes. We offer intensive and semi-intensive driving courses in Lerwick for learners who want to pass quickly. An intensive course typically involves several hours of tuition per day over one or two weeks, culminating in your practical test. Semi-intensive courses spread the hours over a few weeks for a slightly less demanding schedule. Intensive courses are ideal if you need your licence for work, have a specific deadline, or simply want to get it done efficiently. Your instructor will assess your starting ability and design a course that gives you the best chance of passing first time.
Do you have female driving instructors in Lerwick?
Yes. We have both male and female driving instructors available in Lerwick. Many learners — particularly those who are nervous or who prefer to learn with a same-gender instructor for personal or cultural reasons — specifically request a female instructor. Simply let us know your preference when you submit your enquiry and we will do our best to match you with an available female instructor in Lerwick. Availability varies by area, so please enquire early if this is important to you.
