Frequently Asked Questions — Driving Instructors in Scalloway
How do I find a driving instructor in Scalloway?
The easiest way to find a DVSA-approved driving instructor in Scalloway is to submit a free enquiry through Reliant Driver Training. We'll match you with an available instructor in your area based on your location, availability, and any preferences you have — such as manual or automatic, or a male or female instructor. Most learners in Scalloway are matched within 24 hours. You can also call us directly on the number above. We do the legwork so you don't have to search through directories or make multiple calls.
Are your driving instructors in Scalloway DVSA-approved?
Yes. Every Reliant instructor holds a current DVSA ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) licence. This is a legal requirement to charge for driving tuition in the UK and involves passing three separate DVSA examinations — a theory test, a practical driving ability test, and an instructional ability test. You can verify any instructor's ADI badge number on the DVSA public register at gov.uk. We never use PDIs (trainee instructors) without clearly disclosing this, and all our fully qualified ADIs are regularly assessed.
Do you have female driving instructors in Scalloway?
Yes. We have both male and female driving instructors available in Scalloway. Many learners — particularly those who are nervous, or who prefer a same-gender instructor for personal, cultural, or religious reasons — specifically request a female instructor. Simply let us know your preference when you submit your enquiry and we will do our best to match you with an available female instructor in Scalloway. Availability varies by area, so we recommend specifying this preference early. We will always be honest with you if a female instructor is not immediately available in your postcode.
Can I have automatic driving lessons in Scalloway?
Yes. We offer both manual and automatic driving lessons in Scalloway. If you prefer automatic, simply select this when you enquire and we will match you with an automatic instructor. Automatic lessons are popular with learners who find the clutch and gear changes difficult, those with certain physical conditions, and those who simply want to focus on road awareness without the added complexity of gear management. Bear in mind that an automatic-only licence restricts you to driving automatic vehicles — if you want to drive both, a manual licence covers you for both. Your instructor can help you decide.
How quickly can I start lessons in Scalloway?
Most learners in Scalloway are matched with an available instructor within 24–48 hours of submitting their enquiry, depending on local instructor availability and your specific requirements. If you have preferences — such as a female instructor, automatic lessons, or a specific day and time — it may take slightly longer to find the right match. Once matched, your instructor will contact you directly to arrange your first lesson at a time that suits you. If you need to start urgently, please mention this in your enquiry and we will prioritise your matching.
What areas do your Scalloway instructors cover?
Our instructors in Scalloway typically cover a radius of 10–15 miles from the town centre, including surrounding villages and suburbs in Shetland Islands. Coverage varies by instructor — some cover a wider area, others focus on a smaller patch. When you submit your enquiry, please include your full postcode so we can match you with an instructor who genuinely covers your area. We will always confirm coverage before making a match, so you will never be paired with an instructor who cannot reach you.
