Turn your driving skills into a rewarding career. We'll walk you through every step of qualifying as a DVSA-approved ADI — from Part 1 theory to your green badge — and show you how to partner with us once you qualify.
Before you start training, you must meet the DVSA's basic eligibility criteria.
Every ADI in the UK follows the same DVSA-set pathway. Here's exactly what each stage involves and what it costs.
Multiple-choice theory test (100 questions, 86 pass mark) plus hazard perception clips.
An advanced driving test assessed to a higher standard than the standard L-test.
Two 30-minute role-play scenarios testing your ability to teach a pupil.
One-off fee to join the official DVSA ADI register once you pass all three parts.
Once you've passed Parts 1 and 2, you can apply for a Trainee Licence (PDI badge). This allows you to legally charge pupils for lessons while you complete your Part 3 training — helping to offset your training costs. (£140)

Yes — once you pass Parts 1 and 2, you can apply for a Trainee Licence (PDI badge). This lets you charge for lessons while completing your Part 3 training. It's valid for 6 months and can be renewed up to 3 times.
Most people qualify within 6–18 months depending on how quickly they study and how often they train. Some fast-track candidates complete it in as little as 3–4 months.
Qualified ADIs typically charge a competitive hourly rate. Working full-time, your income is entirely in your hands.
Once you hold your ADI badge, you can partner with Reliant Driver Training. We provide pupils, marketing, and admin support so you can focus on teaching.
