Automatic Driving Lessons in Lichfield — FAQs
Are automatic driving lessons available in Lichfield?
Yes. Reliant Driver Training has DVSA-approved automatic driving instructors available in Lichfield. Simply specify that you want automatic lessons when you submit your enquiry and we will match you with an available automatic instructor in your area. Availability of automatic instructors varies by location — automatic lessons are in higher demand in some areas, and the pool of automatic instructors is smaller than for manual. We recommend enquiring as early as possible if automatic is a firm requirement, particularly if you also have a preference for lesson times or a specific gender of instructor. We will always confirm availability before making a match, so you will never be paired with an instructor who cannot meet your requirements. If no automatic instructor is immediately available in Lichfield, we will let you know and add you to a waiting list.
What is the difference between automatic and manual driving lessons in Lichfield?
In an automatic lesson in Lichfield, the car changes gear for you — there is no clutch pedal and no gear stick to operate. This means you can focus entirely on steering, road awareness, hazard perception, and the driving test itself, without the added complexity of clutch control and gear selection. Many learners find automatic lessons easier and less stressful, particularly in the early stages. The trade-off is that an automatic-only licence restricts you to driving automatic vehicles.
Will an automatic licence restrict me in Lichfield?
Yes. If you pass your driving test in an automatic car in Lichfield, your licence will be restricted to automatic vehicles only. You will not be able to legally drive a manual car without taking a further test. If you think you may want to drive manual vehicles in the future — for example, if you need to drive a company vehicle or hire a car abroad — you should consider taking manual lessons instead. Your instructor can help you decide which is right for your circumstances.
How many automatic driving lessons will I need in Lichfield?
The number of automatic driving lessons you need in Lichfield depends on your natural ability, how regularly you practise, and whether you have any previous driving experience. The DVSA recommends an average of 45 hours of professional tuition, though many learners need fewer hours in an automatic because they can focus entirely on road awareness rather than gear management. Your instructor will give you an honest assessment of your progress and advise when you are ready to book your test.
Can I do an intensive automatic driving course in Lichfield?
Yes. We offer intensive and semi-intensive automatic driving courses in Lichfield for learners who want to pass quickly. An intensive automatic course typically involves several hours of tuition per day over one or two weeks, culminating in your practical test at the end of the programme. Semi-intensive courses spread the same number of hours over 2–4 weeks for a slightly less demanding schedule. Intensive automatic courses are particularly popular because removing the complexity of clutch and gear management means you can focus entirely on road awareness, hazard perception, and test technique — which can make the intensive format even more effective for some learners. They are ideal if you have a specific deadline, need your licence for work, or simply want to get it done efficiently. Contact us for current availability and pricing for intensive automatic courses in Lichfield.
Do you have female automatic driving instructors in Lichfield?
Yes. We have both male and female automatic driving instructors available in Lichfield. Many learners specifically request a female instructor for personal, cultural, or religious reasons — and this is a completely valid preference that we will always do our best to accommodate. Simply let us know your preference when you submit your enquiry and we will match you with an available female automatic instructor in Lichfield if one is available. If you want both an automatic car and a female instructor, specify both preferences when you enquire — availability of female automatic instructors may be more limited than female manual instructors in some areas, so we recommend enquiring early if both are firm requirements. We treat all gender preference requests with complete discretion.
Which test centre will I use for my automatic test in Lichfield?
Your automatic instructor in Lichfield will advise on the most convenient DVSA test centre for your area and prepare you specifically for the local test routes. The automatic practical test follows the same format as the manual test.
